The Systems Administrator maintains, administers, and installs network servers, services, and applications in accordance with standard Information Technology policies, processes, and procedures or as directed by IT management; responds to help requests and performs level one diagnostic on network servers, services, and applications.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs administration (add, delete, change) of Windows 2000/2003 network, Exchange 2000/2003 e-mail, fax, and VPN and Citrix remote access accounts and other network resources, services, and applications

  • Monitors network and network devices including network connectivity, Citrix connectivity and function, fax and Exchange e-mail server connectivity and function, server performance issues, etc.

  • Provides level one diagnosis of issues with network servers, services, and applications in a Windows 2000/2003 network environment

  • Provides level three diagnosis of Windows and Citrix client issues including operating system, devices, services, printing, network issues, and client application issues (e.g. Outlook, Office Pro, and line of business apps.)

  • Performs administration of the Veritas Netback Enterprise Backup system including tape management and acquisition, issue resolution, hardware maintenance, and creating reports as directed by IT management

  • Associate’s Degree or graduate of a technical school in information systems or information technology or related field or equivalent experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in information systems or information technology or related field, preferred
  • 2 years working in an IT support/administration role in a Windows 2000-2003 network environment; experience in maintaining, diagnosing, and administering servers, services, and applications
  • Experience working with no less than six of the following is required:
    • Windows 2000/2003 server
    • Windows 2000/2003 networking
    • Active Directory
    • Exchange 2000/2003 server
    • Citrix Metaframe XPe servers and clients
    • Working in a helpdesk environment
    • Oracle or MS SQL database administration
    • Veritas Netbackup Enterprise backup and media administration
    • Sun Solaris
  • At least one of the following certifications; more than one certification or advanced certifications, preferred:
    • Standard Certifications
      • MCSA 2000 or 2003 to include Exchange 2000 or 2003 Administration
      • Citrix CCA
      • Network , Server
    • Advanced Certifications
      • Citrix CCEA or CCIA
      • MCSE 2000 or 2003
      • Solaris 8.x or 9.x System Administrator
  • Additional certifications in network or systems design, implementation, or diagnostics or in any of the following areas, preferred
    • Remote Access and VPNs
    • Network Management and Diagnostics (e.g. HP Openview, Sniffer)
    • Database Administration (e.g. MCSD, Oracle)
    • Enterprise Network Storage (e.g. SAN, NAS, Mirroring, Clustering)
    • Veritas Enterprise Storage and Backup Management Products
Computer Skills:
  • Type 25 words a minute for data and configuration entry
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel. PowerPoint, Visio, Project and Outlook
  • After hours work may be required for upgrades to production systems to avoid system downtime during business hours
  • Must be able to be available for after-hours support via cell phone or pager 24x7 when on call
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to drive are required to allow for infrequent (less than 5%) travel to remote sites for support and installations as necessary
