(NYSE: WCG) focuses exclusively on providing government-sponsored managed care services, primarily through Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans, to families, children, seniors and individuals with complex medical needs. WellCare serves approximately 4 million members nationally.
WellCare is seeking a Paralegal, Litigation & Regulatory to join its Legal department. Candidates should have at least 5 years of litigation paralegal experience, compliance and/or health care regulatory experience in a law firm or in-house setting. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience supporting attorneys on a range of litigation matters and disputes, including legal holds, early case assessment, discovery/ediscovery, proceedings and engagement with clients. Experience in health insurance, managed care litigation, regulatory matters and compliance/internal investigations support preferred. Project management experience a plus. Successful candidates will have outstanding professional skills, sound judgment, and must be capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment while effectively managing multiple projects and competing priorities. Successful candidates will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written are necessary as this individual will interact with senior business leaders, as well as excellent organizational skills and an efficiency mindset. Job responsibilities are expected to include the following:
  • Supporting in-house litigation attorneys, through research, critical thinking skills and a solution-oriented approach on a range of disputes, litigation and administrative proceedings, plus support on compliance and regulatory issues, including inquiries and investigations
  • Researching and analyzing disputes involving health insurance coverage and claims payments
  • Working with attorneys, outside counsel and internal clients on discovery/ediscovery matters and factual development on cases
  • Creating, organizing, and maintaining databases, as well as serving as the point of contact on assigned matters
  • Coordinating with WellCare's business units to research information relevant to pending legal disputes and other Company initiatives
  • Receiving subpoenas, responding to or appropriately routing subpoenas internally; assisting WellCare business units with the preparation of responsive documents or testimony
  • Resolving routine legal issues with minimal direction from supervising attorney
  • Collaborating and partnering with both in-house and external counsel and internal clients
Successful candidates should meet the following criteria:
  • Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies and/or Paralegal Certification, with litigation curriculum
  • 5 years of in-house legal and/or law firm experience supporting litigation matters
  • Preference for health care and/or insurance related experience
  • Preference for experience managing case development
  • Discovery management experience, including legal holds, eDiscovery protocols and productions
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with Serengeti, Westlaw and litigation technology generally
