The Senior Network Engineer designs, documents, implements, monitors, and supports local and wide-area networks and systems to meet the business requirements of the organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Designs, documents, implements, monitors, and supports TCP/IP local and wide-area networks using Cisco equipment and other industry standard equipment and practices
  • Designs, documents, implements, monitors, and supports Sun Solaris, Linux, and/or Windows 2000 server configurations

  • Designs, documents, plans, implements, monitors, and supports Unix and Windows based network services, applications, and databases

  • Designs, documents, plans, implements, monitors, and supports enterprise storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions

  • Ensures that all provided technology services and solutions meet business needs for reliability, performance, and security
  • Responds to alerts or emergency issues within 15 minutes during normal business hours and when on-call

  • Provides project management and leadership for network and systems projects

  • Reviews new technologies against business requirements to identify opportunities for process, performance, reliability, or data management, storage or backup improvements and to identify opportunities to reduce costs

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in information systems or information technology or related field or equivalent experience
  • Expert knowledge in network or systems design, documentation, implementation, monitoring, and support as demonstrated by no less than 5 years experience working in Information Technology in project management or leadership roles as well as technical roles with no less than three of the following technologies:
    • TCP/IP network design, implementation, administration, and support
    • Windows Server, Exchange Server, and Windows networks design, implementation, administration, and support

    • Sun Solaris system design, implementation, and administration

    • Enterprise storage or backup design, implementation, administration and support

    • Network service, application, and database design, implementation, administration, and support

    • Network management and/or security

  • At least one of the following certifications are required — more than one certification or Advanced certifications, preferred:

    • Standard Certifications

      • CCNA, CCDA, Cisco Security

      • MCSA 2000 or 2003

      • Citrix CCA

      • Network

    • Advanced Certifications

      • CCNP, CCDP

      • Citrix CCEA or CCIA

      • MCSE 2000 or 2003

      • Solaris 8.x or 9.x System Administrator

    • Additional certifications in network or systems design, implementation, or diagnostics or in any of the following areas are preferred

      • Internet Technologies and Routing (e.g. Web, IIS, Apache, BGP)

      • Firewalls and Network Security (e.g. Cisco PIX, intrusion detection, vulnerability scanning)

      • Authentication Security (e.g. smartcards, tokens, biometrics)

      • Remote Access and VPNs

      • Network Management and Diagnostics (e.g. HP Openview, Sniffer)

      • Database Administration (e.g. MCSD, Oracle)

      • Enterprise Network Storage (e.g. SAN, NAS, Mirroring, Clustering)

      • Veritas Enterprise Storage and Backup Management Products

Computer Skills:

  • Type at least 25 words a minute for data and configuration entry

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio and Project

Other:

  • After hours work may be required for upgrades to production systems to avoid system downtime during business hours

  • Must be able to be available for after-hours support via cell phone or pager 24x7 when on call

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to drive are required to allow for infrequent (less than 5%) travel to remote sites for support and installations as necessary
