Intern I - Finance, Tax Department -Technology Role

The Tax Department is dynamic and transforming. The end goal is to take advantage of tax technology to automate more routine functions to enable tax professionals to do more value added work.The department is divided over a group that does tax compliance and tax accounting and another group that is more planning and special projects oriented.

The primary purpose of this internship is to assist the Department in gaining efficiency through use of technology. In order to accomplish this, the intern will have to get exposure to the Tax functions in the Department. This will include assignments relating to special projects, income tax compliance and exposure to the day-to-day in a tax department. The intern will be a contributing member of the team and will focus on improving the department’s technology environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop knowledge of how a tax department functions and what it produces. This includes financial statement tax accounting and all tax filings
  • Develop robust understanding of the data available and tools used by the tax department (e.g., licensed software, Excel, etc.) and begin to catalog strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities of tax technology
  • Enhance technical understanding of income tax accounting and tax compliance issues in order to merge technology and tax knowledge together to better assess the effectiveness of tools
Candidate Education:
  • Currently enrolled as a Junior, Senior or Graduate student in a college program pursuing Bachelor’s degree in IT-related field with an interest or experience with Accounting or Tax
    Examples of preferred majors include, but are not limited to:
    • Business Administration Information Systems;
    • Financial Enterprise Systems;
    • Information Studies;
    • Business Information Technology;
    • Management Information Systems

Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA or Pass ratings.

Technical Skills:
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, intermediate coding experience
